Scotland
Since I never put anything up for June or July I thought I would share my visit home to Scotland.
I love to spend time in Scotland. Spending time with family is one of my favorite things to do.
Over the years Scotland has gone through many changes mostly on infrastructure, roads, bridges, cleaning of old buildings and building of new ones. The Scots are an interesting bunch of people, living in an almost mystical land rich with story and scenery. When you are born in such a country the history that you are taught in school contradicts the story's you are told by parents, grandparents and other's in your community. I grew up believing in nature's elementals or fairies and spiritual creatures that lived every where. And asking for guidance from those who had passed on an everyday occurrence.
This is a picture of Ailsa Craig. The modern name of this island is an Anglicization of the Gaelic, Allise Creag meaning "fairy rock" The island consists entirely of the volcanic plug of an extinct volcano that might have been active 500 million years ago.
Above is a picture of the Kings cave at Blackwaterfoot Arran.
King Robert the Bruce was born at Lochmaben Castle in 1274. He was Knight and Overlord of Annandale. In 1306 he was crowned King of Scotland and henceforth tried to free Scotland from the English. After being defeated at a battle of Methven and Dalry in the winter of 1313., Bruce escaped and found a hideout in a cave. Legend has it it was the cave in the pictures above. Hiding in a cave for three months, Bruce was at the lowest point of his life. He thought about leaving the country and never coming back. While waiting, he watched a spider building a web in the cave's entrance. The spider fell down time after time, but finally he succeeded with his web. So Bruce decided also to retry his fight and told his men: "If at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again".He came back and won the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, even though his men were outnumbered ten to one. This is a story I was told many times growing up. When we entered the cave the feeling I had was not of kings or battle's but that primordial feeling of entering a sacred place. The contrast from the outside was unmistakable, the air had a strong earthy scent and the ground was covered in soft green moss. Water dripped and ran down the walls, people had lived here in the shelter of our Mother Earth. |
You can see the path that leads too and from the cave thru the tall grass. Such beauty.
I would like this to be a place where we can explore and grow
